Corporate Social Responsibility

We have always believed that it is important to be committed to public interest services and we encourage all of our staff to engage in our Corporate Social Responsibility Programme.

Pro bono

Our firm is regularly involved in a range of pro bono work, providing free legal services to non-profit organisations and individuals in need. As lawyers, we believe this part of our activity to be ethically important and to be fundamental to the integrity of the profession and the judicial system.

On this basis, the firm has regularly provided services to, inter alia, the Luxembourg Red Cross (see below), Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner (see below), Mouvement Ecologique asbl (one of the major Luxembourg environment protection organisations) and Fondation de Luxembourg (an umbrella foundation launched in 2009 to enhance philanthropic activities in Luxembourg).

In the emerging sector of microfinance – where Luxembourg has developed into a premier actor – we are regularly rendering our services either on a purely pro bono basis or at very significantly reduced rates. In this sector we have in particular been rendering services to ADA (Appui au Developpement Autonome) asbl, a preeminent Luxembourg NGO specialising in microfinance, LuxFlag asbl (Luxembourg Fund Labelling Agency), Luxembourg Microfinance and Development Fund Sicav, a public-private partnership launched at the end of 2009 and Grameen Crédit Agricole Microfinance Foundation.

Charity

Since 2008 we have been actively and financially supporting the “Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner” (a registered charity in aid of children with cancer).

Last summer we were proud to co-sponsor a fantastic awareness campaign for the Foundation by displaying a giga-print on the facade of our offices with the portrait of a young patient who had successfully fought cancer.

At the beginning of 2010 we entered into a long-term partnership with “Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise”.  Through this collaboration, the Firm’s charity fundraising, pro bono work and volunteering efforts come together.

We will not only be supporting the Luxembourg Red Cross financially, but will also give them moral and personal support in their various projects and events. Participating in the Croix-Rouge’s annual “Quinzaine du Don”, collecting material for refugees hosted in the “Foyer Don Bosco”, organising internal fund raising events or promoting blood donations are just some of the projects in which the entire staff is involved in and where we endeavour to “improve the lives of  vulnerable people”.

Established in Bangladesh in 1998, "Friendship" is a value-based organisation, which identifies and reaches the poorest of the poor and the most marginalised communities in Bangladesh.

"Friendship"'s primary mission is to help the destitute population of the Nomad Islands (the Chars) located on the Brahmaputra, and bring emergency, relief and rehabilitation to disaster stricken areas of the country. It  acts primarily in the areas of health, education, economic development and emergency assistance. There is also an important cultural preservation dimension to its commitment. Our financial support to "Friendship" is more particularly designated to co-fund an integrated development project (health, education, vocational training, income generation) in 6 Nomad Islands located on the Brahmaputra in the Northern districts of Bangladesh.

Fair-trade

Since the beginning of this year we have been actively supporting "Fair Trade" by offering certified fair-trade coffee, sugar, chocolate and orange juice for consumption on our premises.

Environment

Since 2009 we have had an environmental management programme in place which includes a recycling plan and a comprehensive range of initiatives designed to minimise our consumption of paper and energy.
